You’ve imbibed a special potion that makes you immortal. Now that you’ve got forever, what changes will you make in your life? How will you live life differently, knowing you’ll always be around to be accountable for your actions?
I would travel the world, and I mean THE WHOLE world, by foot, day after day, until I see that every day, every place, every person is similar to the next; this will be the moment when tragedy strikes. I will not need money anymore because paying will not have meaning anymore. Life will be free, because if one does not mind passing time, one can’t put a price on it. It will be a damnation, the true horror, because there will be no ending to the cycle. Forever alive so forever in pain, immortality seems a lot like a neverending jail: one cannot escape, though one cannot be stopped by anything. Not even death, the ultimate power, can free you from pain, so you have to stop yourself somehow. But maybe pain will be more tolerable, because the memory of it, century after century will be forgotten. Memory itself will mean nothing anymore: and thus your identity will mean nothing, not even to you, you will be nothing but existence. Who would want immortality? Neverending life is not life. It is just a badly conceived fantasy.
